Newcastle Jets have appointed Stephen Hoyle as the club’s Ninja A-League head coach on a two-season deal.
Hoyle joins the Jets from New Zealand National League club Napier City where he served as assistant coach in conjunction with an assistant role with the New Zealand Under-17 women’s international team.

Originally from Barnsley, England, Hoyle has replaced Ryan Campbell in the hot seat at the Jets; Campbell oversaw one-and-a-half Ninja A-League seasons at the club after his initial appointment as interim coach in 2024.

As Campbell continues his role as technical director of the club’s girls academy, Hoyle steps into the top job at the club to guide Newcastle’s Ninja A-League side through to the end of the 2026-27 campaign.
“I’m incredibly grateful to be the club’s new A-League Women’s head coach,” Hoyle said upon confirmation of his appointment.
“My aim is that we build an environment where everyone works hard to achieve success on the field, become the best version of themselves and feel honoured to represent the local community.
“I can’t wait to get on the grass and work alongside the players and staff to create a team that is connected, courageous, and leaves a positive mark on Newcastle.”

Jets CEO Tain Drinkwater said Hoyle’s impressive vision for the future of the club stood out during the interview process.
“We are pleased to welcome Stephen to the Newcastle Jets,” Drinkwater said.
“We were very impressed with his vision and ambitions for the team, and it was clear throughout the interview process that his passion is for women’s football, he is committed to developing a successful program for our A-League Women’s team and he is ready to lead.
“Stephen has had previous experience working in Head Coaching roles and we are confident he is ready to take that next step to the A-League.”
