Pohang Steelers star Denilson is confident the visitors can pick up at least a draw when the Korean club takes on the Central Coast Mariners in the Asian Champions League at Bluetongue Stadium in Gosford on Wednesday night.
Denilson said the team had adjusted well to the Central Coast since touching down on Monday morning. The team trained shortly after arriving on the coast and had another session at Bluetongue Stadium on Tuesday.
“We’ve come to the coast to play our own style,” said Denilson, a Brazilian who boasts experience in Europe, Central America, the Middle East and Asia.
“Our objective is to play our stuff and not worry what the Mariners will do too much. I hope we can get some points from the game.”
Steelers coach Sergio Farias said he wants his team to ‘show its strengths’.
“We have a lot of information on the Central Coast and we’ll prove that in the game on Wednesday,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mariners coach Lawrie McKinna will monitor the fitness of striker Dylan Macallister who did not train on Tuesday.
Macallister was expected to start up front alongside Socceroo Matt Simon.
“Dylan has a bit of a stomach bug but even if he doesn’t start he’ll be a bonus coming off the bench,” McKinna said.
If Macallister does not start Nik Mrdja is likely to play alongside Simon in attack.
