Sydney FC striker Matt Simon says the Sky Blues missed a chance to build on momentum as a 3-0 defeat to Melbourne City extended their winless run to seven Hyundai A-League matches.
Graham Arnold’s side visited Melbourne for a second straight week but were unable to add to replicate their midweek AFC Champions League heroics against Guangzhou Evergrande.

“It was a such a great performance beating the Asian champions and that’s what we spoke about, we needed to build confidence from that,” Simon told FOX SPORTS.
“I thought in patches we were decent tonight but when it counted we just weren’t good enough.”
The visitors enjoyed the ascendency for much of the first half but struggled to get back into the game following Bruno Fornaroli’s opener just prior to the break.
Simon agreed with the assessment that tired legs cost his side in the second half.
“I think so. I think we played pretty well in patches,” the former Central Coast Mariners man said.
“We set up differently tonight and we started the game well but we copped a sucker punch just before half-time.
“It’s pretty disappointing to finish up 3-0.”
