Sydney FC has added Hirofumi Moriyasu to its midfield stocks, signing the Japanese player on a one-year contract.
The 24-year-old trialled with the club, playing four pre-season friendlies, including a clash with English Premier League club Everton, and coach Vitezslav Lavicka liked what he saw.
Moriyasu came to Sydney earlier this year, and despite having thoughts of giving the game away, the man they call ‘Hiro’ took a shot at a NSW Premier League side, and did not look back.
Being so close to quitting was ironically a turning point in the midfielder’s career.
“Something tweaked inside me when I was close to quitting. I knew I had to come and try out here. This is unbelievable,” Moriyasu said.
“I just brought a ticket to Australia so I am just so happy right now.”
“The facilities, the standard of football and the coaching staff are just fantastic. I am so happy and want to win.”
Lavicka said Moriyasu’s ability to play various midfield roles will further enhance the talented Sky Blues midfield.
“Hiro is a very versatile player. He impressed me. Since he came to us and trained he has done very well. We are very happy he has signed with Sydney FC,” Lavicka said.
“We have a very good midfield and Hiro is important new player to that. He is the same type of player we looked for. He can play holding midfield, he can play wide and in the diamond.”
