Matildas star Sharn Freier suffers season-ending injury in major blow to Brisbane Roar

Brisbane Roar have confirmed CommBank Matildas winger and Ninja A-League star Sharn Freier is set to miss the remainder of the 2024-25 season with an ankle injury.

Freier suffered the injury in the second half of Brisbane’s Round 13 clash with Perth Glory at the Sam Kerr Football Centre.

The 23-year-old missed Brisbane’s home clash with Wellington Phoenix in Round 14 and it’s since been confirmed she will not return to action this season.

Freier has played 11 games for Brisbane this season, registering two goals and four assists whilst starring in attack alongside twin sister Laini Freier.

The season-ending injury was confirmed by the club in the build-up to Brisbane’s Round 15 meeting with Western Sydney Wanderers on Sunday.

“Brisbane Roar can confirm the unfortunate news that Sharn Freier will miss the remainder of the 2024/25 season after sustaining an ankle injury in Round 13 against Perth Glory,” the club revealed.

“The club wishes Sharn all the best with her recovery.”

Freier is set to join German giants VfL Wolfsburg at the conclusion of the 2024-25 Ninja A-League campaign.
