Ross McCormack says his injury-replacement deal with Melbourne City has “put a smile back on his face” and he hasn’t ruled out a longer stay in the Hyundai A-League.
The Scottish striker is on loan to City as cover for their injured City skipper Bruno Fornaroli.
The 31-year-old has impressed for the Hyundai A-League leaders, scoring a fantastic free-kick to sink Wellington Phoenix 1-0 last Saturday.
And while his deal will expire once Fornaroli returns to full fitness, McCormack hinted it might not be the end of his time here.
“I’m not thinking about going back to Aston Villa just yet,” he told reporters on Monday.
“It’s no secret it’s not worked out there [Villa]. We’ll see if there’s anything that can be done.
“If I can stay here or I can go somewhere else on loan to play some more games or leave permanently.
“I’m not sure what’s going to happen but it’s just good to feel part of a squad that’s for sure.
“It’s good to come in every day and train and feel a part of the group with a chance of playing.”
McCormack arrived in the Hyundai A-League with a big reputation from his time in the Championship in England, where and admits he’s been surprised by the standard of the competition.
“It’s different to what I’m used to in England and technically it’s been better than I thought it would be,” he said.
“I’ve seen a lot of good players since I’ve come to Australia and I’ve definitely seen a lot of players that could easily play in the Championship in England.”
City next take on Adelaide United on Saturday night at Coopers Stadium.
