Debutant Josh Risdon has spoken of his dream come true at pulling on the Socceroos jersey for the first time against Bangladesh and says it’s given him the taste for more.
Risdon, 23, was a strong performer in his first international appearance as the Socceroos cruised to a 4-0 win in Dhaka on Tuesday night in their World Cup qualifier.
The result – coupled with Jordan’s loss to Kyrgyzstan – has enabled Ange Postecoglou’s side to return to the top of their group with two home matches to come in March.
For Risdon, who set up the second goal for Tim Cahill, the match against the 180th-ranked Bengal Tigers is something he will never forget.
“It was great. To put on that shirt was an amazing feeling and being out there with some great players, it was really good just to represent my country,” Risdon told FFA TV.
“It’s been a dream of mine since I was a young boy and I’m glad it’s come true. It was pretty tough conditions.
“The pitch was a bit bobbly and it was very humid and hot,” he added.
“It was tough conditions for my first game. But you’ve got to put that aside at international level and just play your best.”
