Prized Sydney FC recruit Simon Colosimo insists revenge is not on his mind ahead of Sunday’s clash with the club he led for the first three Hyundai A-League seasons.
Colosimo will meet his former team-mates for the first time as the enemy when the Sky Blues host the Perth Glory in round-three action.
But when asked if the match against his former allies holds extra significance, the 29-year-old revealed a business-as-usual approach to the emotional meeting.
“It’s a home game, we want maximum points from our home games,” Colosimo said.
“I mean all the boys here are treating it as a game that we want to go out and win.”
Asked if he expects to be on the receiving end of any extra attention from his former team-mates, Colosimo conceded he would be the target of some ‘fun banter’ before deflecting the focus to the Glory’s own early-season form.
“There’s a new-look team over there, they looked pretty good last week (against the Newcastle Jets) to be honest,” he said.
“They must be disappointed with the way things panned out in that last minute but they look enthusiastic.”
“‘Mitch’ (Glory coach Dave Mitchell) has got them all guns blazing basically going forward so yeah I expect them to come out here and try and get a result.”
In response to Mitchell’s comments made earlier this week that (Colosimo) ‘was stale at the Perth Glory’ and that his move to the harbour city was the right move for both parties, the former Socceroo insisted he harbours no ill-feeling towards the club or coach.
“I’ve got a lot of respect for Mitch off the pitch and on the pitch.”
“I did have a chat with him early on in the piece last season and sort of sat down and went through things about where my career was heading – this was well before he was given the (head) coaching job.”
“We’ve got a good working relationship and if he thinks that it’s a good move for me then I’m glad about that actually because I do respect his opinion.”
