A relieved Mark Jones has cautioned his Newcastle Jets side to be more clinical in attack after Friday night’s last-gasp 2-1 win over Adelaide United.
The hosts spurned two clear-cut opportunities in stoppage time before Morten Nordstrand finally buried a third to seal victory at McDonald Jones Stadium.

“They gave me a heart attack but in the end we’ll take the win,” Jones told Fox Sports.
“We had plenty of opportunities to wrap it up earlier and we’ll pay for that at some point in the year if we don’t be ruthless in front of goal.
“I’m more pleased we’re starting to play good football for 90 minutes, be disciplined and keep better possession of the ball.”
Newcastle are now remarkably up to sixth after only goal difference separated them from bottom just two weeks ago.
Despite their improving form, Jones believes the Jets must reinforce in January if they’re to be a genuine top six contender.
“We’re competitive. I wouldn’t go any further than that,” he said.
“I still think we need to look to the window and get a couple of players.
“If you look at our roster versus some of the others around the league you wouldn’t say we’re a definite top six (team) but if we play like (we did tonight) for sure we can sneak in.”
