Titans will clash! The New Year opens with the biggest game so far in the Hyundai A-League season, as United seek revenge on Roar!
It-s been a thrilling and fascinating Hyundai A-League season so far. With last season-s stand out sides – Melbourne Victory and all-conquering Sydney FC – stuttering thus far, their places at the top end of the ladder have been up for grabs.
While the likes of Perth Glory and North Queensland Fury flattered to deceive before spectacularly falling away, there have been two surprise packages that have been fantastic throughout the Hyundai A-League 2010/11 season.
And now, as 2010 turns into 2011 and the horizon looms, those two teams go toe-to-toe for the last time this season. It-s Adelaide United against Brisbane Roar on Sunday evening. What an explosive way to start the New Year! This one is simply not to be missed.
After a jaunt to The Adelaide Oval for the game with Sydney, The Reds are back in more familiar territory and are expecting one of their biggest attendances of the season at Hindmarsh Stadium for the game that will almost certainly define the remainder of both sides- campaigns.
Rini Coolen-s team has been brilliant all season, so what better time to both show your appreciation and your support than at this epic battle? Shake off the New Year-s cobwebs by helping to turn Hindmarsh into a sea of red, then sing your heart out from the very first peep of the referee-s whistle.
Coolen will hope to have his two recent overseas signings available for their debuts for this crunch match. Following the arrival of Uruguayan Francisco Usucar, Dutch international Andwélé Slory arrived just before Christmas as the club-s guest player.
The attacking midfielder can play a maximum of ten games, including finals, and both players may feature against Roar. What an introduction to the Hyundai A-League. Talk about a baptism of fire!
The Reds will certainly need all of their big guns to perform if they are to get a result against Roar, especially if the last meeting between the sides is any indicator.
The ladder leaders destroyed them at Suncorp last time, handing out a humiliating 4-0 thumping that brought an end to Adelaide-s wonderful run of 13 games without defeat and shifted the title momentum firmly towards Brisbane. The visitors will certainly hold the psychological upper-hand as they go into this game, having managed to dish out the four-goal thrashing despite being reduced to ten men when the score was only 1-0.
United are still hurting from this defeat, and are so hungry for revenge that they have been impatiently waiting for this return fixture from the very second they stepped off the field at Suncorp.
Who could believe that these clubs finished as the bottom two at the end of the Hyundai A-League 2009/10 season? This year, they have both played exciting, attacking football which has provided non-stop entertainment and put points galore on the board. This match-up at Hindmarsh is sure to herald an incredible start to 2011 for the Hyundai A-League, but which team will triumph?
Can Roar overcome their rivals again and push on towards the title, or will United serve up a treat for their fans and come away with three massive points? There is only one place to be on Sunday night. You might well be watching the eventual league winner, so get a ticket today and prepare to see the two best teams in the league this season go all out for the win.
Expect goals, expect excitement, expect Hyundai A-League action at its very best. It-s going to be a thriller!
