Western Sydney Wanderers coach Ufuk Talay has gone strong on VAR and offside rulings after Nicolas Milanovic had a stoppage-time goal chalked off in a 2-1 loss to 10-man Melbourne City at AAMI Park.
The defeat ended the Wanderers’ unbeaten start to the season. It came a week after German Ferreyra’s goal against Macarthur was ruled out by VAR.
“Look, offside is black and white at the end of the day,” Talay told reporters.
“Regardless of it being a goal or not being a goal, I’ve lost my trust in that space anyway.”
Asked what would restore his faith, he was matter of fact in his solution: “maybe more cameras, better angles to make decisions”.

While Talay felt his side controlled long periods of the match, he rued a fast City start and a second-half winner he called “a very poor soft goal, where we just let a couple of players get away from a long throw”.
“I think we weren’t ruthless in front of goal,” he admitted.

City played the last half hour with 10 men after Awer Mabil was sent off, but the visitors could not capitalise.
Despite the loss, Talay was adamant the Wanderers, who finished last in the league last season, remain on track:
“One loss doesn’t change anything. It’s still early in the season.”
