Perth Glory are bound for Tasmania, with the club scheduled to stage three Isuzu UTE A-League fixtures and a Liberty A-League game this month.
With Perth displaced due to Western Australia’s border remaining closed, Launceston’s UTAS Stadium will host A-Leagues fixtures on February 20, February 23 and February 27, with opponents still to be confirmed.
Of the four games, two will make up an Isuzu UTE A-League and Liberty A-League doubleheader.
“We’re very excited to be bringing both our ISUZU UTE A-League and Liberty A-League teams to Tasmania for what promises to be a superb week of football,” said Glory CEO Tony Pignata, with Perth due to return home to WA in early March.
“On behalf of the club, I would like to thank the Tasmanian State Government for their outstanding level of support and for being so welcoming.
“We know there is a passionate local football community in Tasmania and we are really looking forward to engaging with them during our time in the State.”
Glory’s A-League Men team salvaged a last-gasp 1-1 draw at Central Coast Mariners on Sunday to leave them bottom of the table, though they have played the fewest games this season with just eight due to COVID-19 related postponements and issues.
Perth’s A-League Women outfit are fifth in the standings – three points behind Melbourne Victory in the race for the top four – after Sunday’s 4-0 rout at the hands of Melbourne City.
Tasmanian premier Peter Gutwein added: “These four matches present a fantastic opportunity for fans around Tasmania to show up and enjoy top flight football.
“Our Government is committed to delivering more elite sporting content for Tasmanians to enjoy – and importantly, provide pathways for local sports men, women and children.
“We look forward to working closely with Perth Glory and hope to see even more A-League content returning to Tasmania in the future.”
