Arthur Papas has committed his future to Newcastle Jets, signing a contract extension with the Isuzu UTE A-League club.
Papas will remain at Newcastle until at least the end of the 2023-24 A-League Men season, it was announced on Friday.
The 42-year-old, who worked alongside Ange Postecoglou when the former Socceroos guided Yokohama F.Marinos to J1 League glory in 2019, is in his first season with the Jets.
Papas has overhauled the structure and playing style in Newcastle, where the Jets – despite their inconsistency – have earned plaudits for their exciting brand of football.

“Ever since I’ve returned to Newcastle I’ve been made to feel welcomed by the club and city,” Papas said.
“I am grateful to the board and executive chairman Shane Mattiske for their recognition of the hard work and dedication since joining.
“It is clear we have made progress over the past 10 months from our initial starting point and yet are well aware that there remains much room for growth.
“I’ve been clear since day one that I believe the Newcastle Jets have the potential to be one of the biggest clubs in the country and will keep working hard to achieve that.
“This contract extension hopefully provides the certainty required as we move forward together.”
The Jets are ninth in the ALM with 25 points from 23 games, eight points adrift of the finals places.
“Arthur’s presence and leadership has delivered a very significant step forward for the club this season – both in his dedication and contribution to the Men’s A-League team but also the club as a whole,” said executive chairman Shane Mattiske.
“We now have a very competitive team which plays with a spirit that aligns with this community.
“Looking forward, we have real confidence that with Arthur confirmed as our coach for the next two seasons, we are building a team that can compete with the very best and bring real success and pride to this club and this community.”
