Central Coast is expected to field an unchanged line-up when it battles to return to the Hyundai A-League top six with victory against Adelaide at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday night.
After a run of five defeats in succession the Mariners picked up a much-needed point against North Queensland last week.
But coach Lawrie McKinna admits draws are no longer good enough and is confident his team can take maximum points against the competition cellar-dwellers.
McKinna made several changes when the Fury visited Gosford and all the players promoted performed well.
Big central defender Chris Doig made a timely return from injury and will be better for the run.
Doig and several others will get another shot in the starting side this week.
“We didn’t win the match but we took some confidence from the performance,” McKinna said.
“The first half was very good. I think we fell away in the second half but there were some good signs.”
“I think the draw was a step in the right direction but we need to build on that and perform better this week.”
While Adelaide is in last place McKinna is expecting one of the toughest road trips of the campaign.
“There is no easy games in this competition,” he said.
“They were very unlucky against Gold Coast last week and are desperate to get off the bottom of the table.”
The Mariners have only missed the finals once since the formation of the Hyundai A-League and McKinna is adamant his team has the potential to continue that impressive record this season.
