Macarthur pounce instantly as Sydney FC release highly-rated young gun

Hear from Sydney FC head coach Ufuk Talay as he previews this weekend's clash with Macarthur FC in the Isuzu UTE A-League

Macarthur FC have announced the signature of full-back Kealey Adamson after his release from Sydney FC this morning.

The Sky Blues announced the 20-year-old’s departure in the early hours of Thursday morning, after the expiration of his short-term contract.

Adamson filled a void in Sydney’s defence across five Australia Cup games in pre-season, coming off the bench in a 3-1 triumph over Brisbane Roar in the final.

But a subsequent hamstring injury, coupled with the return of Rhyan Grant to fitness, saw Sydney FC decide to part ways with the young defender.

The Bulls acted quickly to secure Adamson’s services, with head coach Mile Sterjovski expressing his delight at the acquisition.

“(As a) young and promising fullback, that we believe has a lot of potential,” Sterjovski said.

“I look forward to having him at the Bulls and help in his development.”

Upon leaving Sydney FC, the club stated that Adamson “will not be permitted to officially play for another club until January.”

The Sky Blues host Macarthur this weekend in Round 7 of the Isuzu UTE A-League; the Bulls are third after an unbeaten start to the new campaign, while Sydney sit in eighth place having won just two of their first six games of the season.

Macarthur travel to face Sydney at Allianz Stadium on Saturday, December 9 (7.45pm AEDT kick-off). You can watch all the action LIVE on 10 Bold and Paramount+!
