Reds star signs contract extension after blistering start to A-Leagues season

Adelaide United take on high-flying Brisbane Roar in Round 7 of the Isuzu UTE A-League.

Adelaide United gun Zach Clough has penned a two-year extension with the Reds until the end of the 2025-26 campaign following his red-hot start to the Isuzu UTE A-League season.

Clough arrived in Adelaide in February 2022 after a lengthy career in England playing for the likes of Bolton Wanderers, Nottingham Forest and Wigan Athletic – and he has gone on to make 42 appearances and scored 11 goals in all competitions since touching down in the ‘City of Churches’.

The attacking midfielder has taken his game to another level this term, leading the league in score involvements with four goals to go with three assists in six games – including a double against Macarthur FC on Monday night.

“Ever since I arrived in Adelaide, I have felt welcome at the club and in the city — it’s a great place to live and to play football, and a great club with a style and culture that really suits me,” Clough said.

“We have a good mix of youth and experience in our squad and having come so close in the A-League last season, I know we have the ability to go all the way this time.

“I’m really grateful to Carl and the rest of the coaching staff for the opportunities they have given me, and I hope to repay them over the next couple of years.”

Reds head coach Carl Veart added: “With the benefit of a full season and strong pre-season behind him, we’re now seeing Zach come into his own.

“He is a smart footballer and brings a lot of quality and experience to our squad.

“Importantly he is also not afraid to work hard and get his hands dirty, which sets a great example for some of our younger players.

“We’re pleased that Zach feels settled in Adelaide and looking forward to his ongoing contribution to our program.”

Clough and his Reds teammates return to action this Sunday when they host Brisbane Roar at Coopers Stadium.
