International star set for A-Leagues swap after Adelaide departure confirmed: Details

Adelaide United have confirmed Lucía León and Tiarna Karambasis have both departed the club after the conclusion of their respective Ninja A-League contracts.

León, a Dominican Republic international, signed for Adelaide from Watford FC ahead of the 2024-25 Ninja A-League campaign and made 26 appearances for the Reds in her first campaign Down Under.

León was a key contributor to Adelaide’s surge from a wooden spoon finish in 2023-24 to third place by the end of the season.

Upon confirmation of León’s departure, Adelaide revealed the 27-year-old is set to take up a new opportunity at another A-Leagues club, having respectfully declined a strong contract offer to remain at the reds.

“Thank you for welcoming me so warmly — this will go down as one of the most special years of my career,” León said.

“I loved every second in this city and playing in front of these incredible fans. There’s something truly special building here, and I hope it continues to grow.”

Karambasis, meanwhile, calls time on her stint at the Reds after playing 22 games under head coach Adrian Stenta in 2024-25.

“I am appreciative of all the coaching staff, fans and the club for giving me a home this season,” Karambasis said.

“I have met some amazing people in Adelaide and am proud to be a part of their most successful season yet.”
