They played out a six-goal thriller in the corresponding fixture last season and Perth Glory boss Kenny Lowe is tipping another goal-fest in Sunday’s clash with Central Coast Mariners.
In one of the comebacks of the 2016/17 Season, the Mariners came from 3-0 down at the break to draw 3-3 with Glory at nib Stadium last campaign.
And the two attack-minded sides go at it again in the west on Sunday with another cracker expected as they both chase their first wins of the season.
“I think it’ll be an open game because both sides like to play expansive football and have players with bags of pace,” Lowe said.
“[Mariners boss] Paul Okon has recruited well, bringing in some experienced guys from overseas and the Mariners are playing a great style of football which is easy on the eye.
“But obviously we have plenty of attacking threats ourselves, so it should be a good game to watch.”
Sunday’s match will be Glory’s first in front of their home fans after back-to-back away matches to start the season.
While they lost 2-1 to the Wanderers in the opening round, there were some impressive signs against the Jets last weekend, with Adam Taggart’s late goal earning them a 2-2 draw.
“I think we could easily have picked up more than one point from the Wanderers and Jets games,” Lowe said.
“We had plenty of opportunities against both of those sides and we finished those games very strongly.
“I’m very happy with where we’re at fitness-wise and I’m confident that we can build on those positives that came out of the first two rounds in Sunday’s game.”
Glory defender Jacob Poscoliero – a former Mariner – will make his 50th Hyundai A-League appearance on Sunday.
