Leroy coy about his Victory future after scoring Melbourne Derby winner

Melbourne Victory winger Leroy George was coy about his future after Friday night’s Melbourne Derby, in which he scored the winner.

George headed home the winner just minutes after Bruno Fornaroli had equalised for Melbourne City FC in a thrilling Melbourne Derby.

The Dutchman later was subbed off and had his hamstrings iced after his side’s 2-1 win.

George has enjoyed a superb season.

In fact, he has now been directly involved in four goals across his last two appearances for Victory (two scored + two assists).

Coach Kevin Muscat is keen for him to stay in Melbourne, but the classy winger was tightlipped about his future after his derby winner.

“I like Melbourne Victory and we will see what happens in the future,” he told Fox Sports.

“You will see the news soon.”

Whether that’s good or bad news for Victory remains to be seen.

George’s family is back in Holland with one of his sons playing for the famed Ajax Amsterdam U9s.

“I have two boys and they want to play football also, so I cannot bring them here. He’s at school also and is doing well.”

As for the derby, George says Victory’s character is shining through at the right time of the season.

“We were a little bit under pressure but we showed good character to win the last two games. And the atmosphere in the stadium was very good.”

The squad flies to Japan in the next couple of days to begin preparing for an Asian Champions League clash with Kawasaki Frontale.
