Last-minute hero Stuart Musialik says the point his side secured in Saturday’s dramatic 1-1 draw with Queensland Roar was well deserved.
The midfielder’s goal deep into stoppage time saw Sydney FC deny Frank Farina’s men a second consecutive Hyundai A-League triumph.
But while the Sydney siders left their run a little late, Musialik, who was named in an extended 35-man Socceroos squad on Monday ahead of the upcoming World Cup qualifier against Qatar, insists anything less than a point would have been hard to swallow.
“It felt pretty good, it’s my first goal for Sydney and mainly it was a bit of a relief really,” Musialik said of his 93rd-minute miracle.
“Especially after last week (against Wellington) because I feel it’s a game we were unlucky not to get a result out of.”
“It’s the same thing this week (because) we dominated the game and it would have been very disappointing not to get at least a point out of the game so it’s very exciting for myself and a bit of relief really as well.”
Coach John Kosmina agreed with Musialik’s assessment of the match and claimed his men were dominant for much of the clash.
“Queensland probably got, I wouldn’t say more than they deserve but it wouldn’t have been far off the mark saying that, because the way we played in the first half we basically tore them to pieces,” Kosmina said.
“The second half we only got ourselves in trouble I don’t think they really outplayed us we outplayed ourselves.”
“The goal that we conceded probably surprisingly rattled us a little bit I think, it wasn’t one that we expected … but look at the end of the day we scraped a point out of it and the good thing is that we kept going right to the death.”
Not surprisingly, Roar coach Frank Farina disagreed with his former team-mate’s assessment of proceedings.
“What game was he watching? Tore us apart, maybe he’s talking it up because they were lucky to get the point,” Farina fired.
He added: “I think ‘Kossie’ should go out and buy a lotto ticket tonight as well, he got out of jail with 30 seconds to go.”
“They fought to the end and I suppose that’s the reward that you get but we could have finished them off when Charlie (Miller) stole the ball off (Tony) Popovic so we’re disappointed to be honest not to be taking the whole three points.”
