Carson Pickett’s 88th-minute strike rescued a point for Brisbane Roar in an entertaining 1-1 Westfield W-League draw against Perth Glory on Sunday.
The Roar controlled the majority of the match but looked like leaving Suncorp Stadium with nothing to show for it after Alyssa Mautz’s 53rd-minute goal.
The outstanding Chioma Ubogagu ensured Brisbane would win a point, though, the American import setting up Orlando Pride teammate Pickett with a lofted cross that the goalscorer finished with aplomb.

Perth, missing suspended duo Sam Kerr and Nicole Stanton, nearly took the lead against the 2017/18 Premiers’ Plate winners in the ninth minute.
But Rachel Hill, who scored a hat-trick in the corresponding fixture last season, was denied by the woodwork, her 20-yard effort striking the underside of the crossbar.
Ubogagu was at the heart of Brisbane’s best moments, first charging past Perth goalkeeper Eliza Campbell before cutting back across the face of goal, but Alissa Toby could not turn home the opener due to the close attention of a Glory defender.
Then, in the 27th minute, Ubogagu went on a mazy run through the Perth defence before finding Katrina Gorry, but she blazed over the crossbar.
The Roar paid the price for not converting their dominance as Perth took the lead eight minutes after the break.
Gorry’s pass was deflected by the quick closing down of Mautz, with Caitlin Doeglas pouncing on the rebound inside her own half.
She stormed forward, skipping past the challenge of Roar captain Clare Polkinghorne before finding Mautz with an excellent cross that she duly converted.
The Roar came close to an equaliser through Ubogagu, who shot straight at Campbell from a tight angle, before Pickett fired over.
But she would make amends in the dying stages, producing a clever first-time finish from Ubogagu’s ball to ensure both sides would share the spoils.
