Brisbane Roar could be set to replace Besart Berisha with another Balkan forward, as reports Mensur Kurtisi will arrive at Suncorp Stadium gather pace.
The 28-year-old forward played the first leg of FK Shkendija’s Europa League first qualifying round tie against Zimbru earlier this week, but was not in the squad for the return fixture away from home on Thursday.
A two-cap Macedonia international, the striker was out of contract at the end of last season, having only signed a short-term deal when he re-joined the Tetovo-based club in January.
In a story published on their website last week, Shkendija announced they had been unable to negotiate an extension with Kurtisi and claimed the former Rapid Wien youth team player had agreed to join an unspecified A-League club.
A report appearing on UEFA’s official website on Wednesday named Roar as Kurtisi’s next destination.
Last season marked Kurtisi’s second spell at Shkendija, having also played for Austrian sides Parndorf 1919 and Wiener Neustadt, as well as stints in Kazakhstan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
Roar coach Mike Mulvey left for Europe a week after winning the double in the Hyundai A-League, telling www.a-league.com.au that a Berisha replacement was priority.
“I-ve got a DVD package which shows them the lifestyle here,” he explained a day after winning the Hyundai A-League championship.
Mulvey added he wanted to meet players personally before any decision is made. And it-s a decision he pledged not to rush into.
“We won-t just take this Brazilian or that Eastern European.”
Brisbane Roar memberships for the 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season are now on sale!
