Fresh from shutting out Sam Kerr and Perth Glory, Melbourne City FC defender Alanna Kennedy says she’s reveling in the professional environment at Melbourne City as they push for a top-four finish.
City were in dominating form at the Melbourne City Football Academy in front of over 1000 fans on Sunday.
Patrick Kisnorbo’s men putting three first-half goals past the visitors, ending the game 3-0 winners. And it could’ve been more had the crossbar not saved Glory from a Jess Fishlock rocket.

The win propelled City to fourth with 16 points, three points clear of the WA side.
“We knew going into this game we needed to pick up some points and I wouldn’t say we’ve been playing badly but not to our potential,” Kennedy said after the game.
“This game was the one that we needed and I think everyone on the field played well and right to the end as well.
“In the past few games, it’s been a matter of our finishing in the final third.
“We’ve played good City football but weren’t able to finish off games in weeks prior. But today we were able to finish the chances that we had.”
And, impressively, City kept Sam Kerr quiet. Kennedy won that key battle.
“Each player knows their role. Sam wasn’t a huge talking point for us but as a defender, I know who I’m coming up against.
“As long as we all do our jobs and win our individual battles we’ll come out on top, and that’s what we did today.”
City’s training and admin HQ is arguably the best in the league for both Westfield W-League and Hyundai A-League.
Kennedy, in her first season with City, is clearly enjoying it and the environment is making her a better player.
“I think the professionalism here is that next level above the other clubs in the league.
“I love Melbourne as a city as well so I’m really enjoying my time here. I just enjoy being treated as a professional and I think the players that we have here like to train and act as professionals as well.
“It’s a really good environment to be a part of and it allows me to challenge myself and get better, which is what you want as an elite footballer,” she said.
City are next in action on Sunday in the Melbourne Derby at Epping Stadium.
