Kawasaki head coach Takashi Sekizuka is confident his side has the skill and mobility to beat the Mariners in Wednesday night’s crucial Asian Champions League showdown in Gosford.
Sekizuka’s side can all but secure a spot in the competition’s knockout stages with a win against the Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium.
After a win and a draw from its opening two matches the Japanese club is sitting two points clear of the Mariners.
The Kawasaki coach was impressed how the Central Coast club performed in a 2-2 against Tianjin Teda in China last month and has plenty of respect for what the Mariners have achieved in the past four years.
“They’re a strong team,” he said.
“Since the establishment of the Mariners they have been strong in scouting good players.”
“We’ll do our best to stop their strong points and show our strengths.”
The Mariners will have a height advantage on Wednesday night but that does not concern Sekizuka.
“Even though we’re smaller we’re confident in our skills, it’ll balance out,” he said.
Mariners captain Alex Wilkinson expects the visitors to play an attacking game.
“We’ll have to be switched on, especially in defence,” Wilkinson said.
