Newcastle Jets can today confirm that the club has parted ways with former captain Kew Jaliens, effective immediately.
Ex Dutch international Jaliens joined the Jets from Poland’s Wisła Kraków in 2013 following an established career in Holland’s Eredivisie.
Subsequent to recent events at the Jets, the club has worked on uncovering an alternative playing option for Jaliens, one of which he has decided to pursue.
Newcastle Jets Chief Executive Officer, Mr Mitchell Murphy, said: “I had open and forthright discussions with the PFA [Professional Footballers Australia] today regarding a range of matters and the club is committed to amicably resolving the current situation.”
“The fact that I met with the PFA within the first two hours of being in the office sends a clear message that we want to work towards an outcome, and Kew’s decision is proof of that.”
Jaliens said he would leave the Hunter with fond memories.
“I had a great time here and there was a very warm welcome not only for me but also my family,” Jaliens said. “That was really important for me, and from day one here they felt at home.”
“It was challenging working with a young squad, but it was also exciting for me.”
“Overall it’s been largely positive in Newcastle. I met beautiful people inside soccer and outside soccer, people who will stick in my friendship group, for sure.”
“I move on to a new adventure, but Newcastle will always be in my heart and my family’s heart, for sure,” he said.
