Sometimes in Fantasy football you just have to cut your losses and despite the fact it-s bad business, it-s time for your Scout to cut Thomas Broich.
I-m opting to cut my losses now and willing to drop $78k on the deal.
It-s a tautology to put the terms moody and German together, but let the record show that Broich looked completely out of sorts and sullen – or verdrossen – against Melbourne Heart.
Roar copped a bullet from their coach after the performance, but the truth is the Broich of this season is not the same man as the one who claimed the Johnny Warren Medal last term.
So he-s getting the cut, along with one of the other non-scorers in my midfield. Iain Ramsay can stay, so can Marcos Flores, but to balance the loss I-m taking on Broich, it-s time to can a previously shrewd investment in either Louis Fenton or Aaron Mooy. After all, it-s all about goals and goals equal points.
With that in mind let-s take a look at how goals affect your score.
Defenders get 12 points per goal, midfielders 10, and strikers 8. Goals are valuable, but thus far this season finding a defender that can feature prominently on the score sheet is hard work.
Last year Patrick Zwaanswijk was fantasy gold, this season… not so much and it-s hard to find a defender who has already scored to take the mantle.
Pascal Bosschaart-s goal was his first in over300 games as a senior player, so he is hard to count on.
Perhaps the best option is Dean Heffernan (199k), who despite being listed as a defender is playing in the midfield for Perth and getting plenty of chances to score.
As for the midfielders, well Dario Vidosic and Marco Rojas have a handful of goals each but the value is in the latter, at 239k he is a good $60,000 cheaper than Vidosic or even Tom Rogic, Jeremy Brockie may well be another option, he is a noted goal scorer, but at $182,000 his teammate
Paul ifill might be the real value in the Phoenix team. Ifill is getting fitter as the season moves on and can score plenty of goals himself; he-s also the Nix-s spot-kick man.
Up front there are plenty of goals being scored this season and that is reflected in four strikers being in the top ten players in the league, Emile Heskey, Daniel McBreen, Ryan Griffiths and Jeronimo Neumann are all up there and both of the Jets look like continuing in their good scoring form, so they are the money players, but the one not to discount is Melbourne Heart-s Josip Tadic.
The Croatian looks like he has found his feet and at just 150k could be set to skyrocket in price.
Buy Marcello Carrusca (ADU – 152k): The Argentine has played in every game so far and if he can replicate the form he showed last week against the Glory he is set to become a fantasy star. Not only can he give a solid assist but he also has a wicked shot. He-s a star on the rise.
Sell Ante Covic (WSW – 220k): Covic has risen $51,000 in value so far, in short he has peaked, penalty saves helped him get there as did a few early-season clean sheets, there is no guarantee that will keep up. Make some money and sell the big guy.
