In Rado they trust: Melbourne City hand Vidosic permanent role

Melbourne City’s search for a head coach is over, with the Isuzu UTE A-League leaders appointing Rado Vidosic on a permanent basis.

Vidosic had stepped up from his position as City’s Liberty A-League head coach to replace Patrick Kisnorbo on an interim basis in late November.

With City seven points clear atop the A-League Men standings following Saturday’s 6-1 mauling of Macarthur FC, the reigning premiers have handed Vidosic a contract until the end of the 2024-25 campaign.

“We are a club that looks internally before we look externally and when we know we have the right person within our ranks, we have no hesitation in giving them the first opportunity,” said City’s director of football Michael Petrillo.

“We’ve seen over the years his ability to implement the City way of playing football starting with our Academy, then our A-League Women’s team and over the last couple of months, the A-League Men’s team.

“Along with his belief in the way we play, he has also continued to nurture the culture inherent within the football club and this is one of the most important factors we took into consideration before making this appointment.

“We have an excellent group of coaches and staff, along with a great playing group. We now look forward to continuing to build on an excellent start to the season and a relentless push for continued success.”

It is Vidosic’s first permanent head coaching role in the Isuzu UTE A-League since he replaced Ange Postecoglou at Brisbane Roar in 2012. He oversaw 11 matches at the club before being reassigned to the position of technical director.

City have the chance to extend their buffer at the Isuzu UTE A-League summit when they visit Perth Glory at Macedonia Park on Saturday night.
