Sam Kerr was at it again, this time hitting an incredible seven-minute hat-trick for Perth Glory in a thriller against Newcastle. Here’s your Monday wrap of all the weekend action starting at Allianz Stadium.
SKY BLUES REVIVAL CONTINUES
On Friday, Lisa De Vanna scored twice in the first half – her second an absolute beauty curling past the Canberra keeper – and it was her assist that saw Canberra United concede a third through an own goal in the second half.
Sydney now looming as one of the dark horses for the title as they eye a strong second half of the season. They even had Caitlin Foord on the bench for this game after her transfer was confirmed earlier in the day.
WANDERERS WIN IN SA
Western Sydney Wanderers took the three points with a 2-1 victory in Adelaide after Lee Falkon scored a second half winner on Friday night.
Dutchwoman Marlous Pieete scored the game’s opener after 23 minutes for Wanderers before classy US import Makenzy Doniak equalised later in the half.
THE SAM KERR SHOW
Kerr scored a stunning hat trick inside 10 minutes for the visitors Perth Glory but it wasn’t enough as they drew 3-3 with Newcastle Jets on Saturday night at McDonald Jones Stadium.
Jets took a 1-0 lead to the break thanks to Arin Gilliland before an incredible second half unfolded.
Glory took a 2-1 lead after Kerr’s first two goals from the 75th minute before Stengel equalised for Jets.
Kerr than hit her third to seal a hat-trick but in time added on the Jets incredibly hit a third goal to end a remarkable night.
ROAR SIZZLE AT SUNCORP
Brisbane Roar substitute Allira Toby was the catalyst for an sizzling second half display in their 2-0 win over Melbourne City on Sunday at Suncorp.
After an even opening 45 minutes, Roar ran over the top of City in the second half with two excellent goals, and it could’ve easily been more.
Katrina Gorry with a crafty second to set up a huge clash with Glory in Perth next week after Toby’s deft lob to open the scoring.
Roar now on top of the league but Glory in second.
