Melbourne Victory 1-2 Sydney FC
The Sky Blues continued their impressive march into the finals but they were forced to fight hard for it against a gutsy Victory on Australia Day.
First half goals from Taylor Ray and Chloe Logarzo had Ante Juric’s side in firm control before Lia Privitelli’s halved the deficit with a clinical header just after the break.
And the visitors had to withstand some nervy moments late on to make it eight-games unbeaten.
While Victory won’t be playing finals, Sydney FC have ensured the race for the Premiership with Brisbane Roar will go down to the final round.
Canberra United 1-5 Newcastle Jets
Canberra missed the chance to jump into the top four when they were crushed by an Emily van Egmond and Katie Stengel-inspired Jets at McKellar Park on Sunday.
It was a huge win for the Hunter club, who have ensured themselves a Westfield W-League finals berth for just the second time in the club’s history.
Stengel smashed a hat-trick for the Jets, while van Egmond bagged a brace to keep their top-two hopes alive, while United will now need results to go their way to play finals football.
Adelaide United 2-4 Brisbane Roar
Roar survived a huge scare to put one hand on the Premiers’ Plate with a thrilling come-from-behind win at Marden Sports Complex.
Despite taking an early lead, the league-leaders found themselves trailing 2-1 in the second half after goals from Mekenzy Doniak and Emily Condon.
But the visitors showed their class to respond with three goals, including a classy lob finish from Westfield Matildas attacker Emily Gielnik late on.
While the Reds will have to settle for the wooden spoon, Roar need just a point from their last match with Canberra to finish as the Premiers.
Perth Glory 3-4 Western Sydney Wanderers
Glory were involved in another goal-fest in the west but were on the wrong end of a seven-goal thriller to officially end their finals hopes.
In a major upset, the young Wanderers jumped out to an early lead before Sam Kerr (two) and Rachel Hill turned things around after the break.
But in a crazy end to the match the visitors missed a penalty and then scored two goals in the last few minutes to snatch an incredible win.
