ANOTHER SENSATIONAL SYDNEY DERBY

The cross-town Sydney rivals always dish up something special and Saturday night in front of almost 35,000 fans at an electric Allianz Stadium didn’t disappoint.

It finished 2-2 with both sides remaining unbeaten and with their title credentials further enhanced.

You get the feeling these two could be involved in the matches that count come the end of the season.

Almost 35,000 fans were at Allianz Stadium for the 16th edition of the Sydney Derby.

LIA LIGHTS UP #ORIGINALRIVALRY

Melbourne Victory remains winless this season after a draw with the Reds at Adelaide Oval.

In a fiery – and at times spiteful – clash on Friday night, it was an unlikely source that was almost the match-winning hero for Adelaide United.

Before Friday’s match, Vince Lia had only scored four goals in a Hyundai A-League career of more than 200 games, but produced two stunning strikes to overturn Berisha’s early goal for the visitors.

CITY THE TEAM TO BEAT?

Three games, three wins, two clean sheets and two points clear at the top of the Hyundai A-League.

New Melbourne City boss Warren Joyce couldn’t have asked for a better start to his Hyundai A-League coaching career – especially with attacking stars Bruno Fornaroli and Fernando Brandan on the injured list and to come back at some point soon.

Could this be the year they finally deliver in the Hyundai A-League?

VARGAS INJURY SOURS JETS VICTORY

A horror injury to Venezuelan attacker Ronny Vargas has overshadowed a second victory in three games for the Newcastle Jets.

Coach Ernie Merrick fought back tears in the post-match press conference when asked about the horrific ankle injury suffered by his marquee in the 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar.

Red-hot striker Roy O’Donovan and former Roar star Dimi Petratos scored the goals which helped the Jets continue their excellent start to 2017/18.

PERTH THE COMEBACK KINGS

It took Glory a while to get going in their first home game of the new campaign, falling behind 1-0 to an excellent Wout Brama goal and looking very much second-best in the early stages of their clash with Central Coast.

But a second-half revival, with goals from Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart, saw Perth claim their first win of the new season.

The Mariners remain winless, which seems unjust given the excellent football they’ve played for large parts of their first three outings; that elusive victory is surely not too far away.
