VARGAS INJURY SOURS JETS VICTORY
A horror injury to Venezuelan attacker Ronny Vargas has overshadowed a second victory in three games for the Newcastle Jets.
Coach Ernie Merrick fought back tears in the post-match press conference when asked about the horrific ankle injury suffered by his marquee in the 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar.
Red-hot striker Roy O’Donovan and former Roar star Dimi Petratos scored the goals which helped the Jets continue their excellent start to 2017/18.
PERTH THE COMEBACK KINGS
It took Glory a while to get going in their first home game of the new campaign, falling behind 1-0 to an excellent Wout Brama goal and looking very much second-best in the early stages of their clash with Central Coast.
But a second-half revival, with goals from Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart, saw Perth claim their first win of the new season.
The Mariners remain winless, which seems unjust given the excellent football they’ve played for large parts of their first three outings; that elusive victory is surely not too far away.
