SKY BLUES TOO STRONG FOR ROAR
Sydney FC consigned Brisbane Roar to a fourth successive home defeat with a highly-professional 3-0 win at Suncorp Stadium on Monday night.
Unbeaten in their previous four meetings with John Aloisi’s men, the Sky Blues extended their recent dominance as Bobo and Adrian Mierzejewski continued their scoring form either side of half-time.
Substitute David Carney put the result beyond doubt late in proceedings to sew up back-to-back victories over Brisbane for the first time since 2005.
RODRIGUEZ SCORES ON DEBUT AS JETS CLAIM F3 DERBY WIN
Late goals to Dimitri Petratos and new recruit Patricio Rodriguez helped the Newcastle Jets to a 2-0 win over a 10-man Central Coast Mariners in an absorbing F3 Derby on Tuesday night.
Just when it seemed like an absorbing local derby would end goalless, Petratos and Rodriguez scored in the last eight minutes to seal the result for the home side at McDonald Jones Stadium.
The Mariners arguably had the better of the chances throughout but lost momentum when Josh Rose was sent off 18 minutes from the end.
The win sees the Jets keep the pressure on league-leaders Sydney FC, while the Mariners remain eighth having scored just one goal in their last six matches.
MCCORMACK MAGIC FIRES CITY PAST GLORY
A brace from Ross McCormack and some more brilliance from youngster Daniel Arzani guided Melbourne City to a comfortable 2-0 win over Perth Glory at nib Stadium on Tuesday night.
McCormack, who also bagged a double on the weekend, scored a record-breaking fourth free-kick of the season and then converted a penalty as City were in control by half-time.
And teenager Arzani again caught the eye in his first Hyundai A-League start, setting up both goals as Warren Joyce’s side consolidated third spot on the ladder.
For Glory, pressure is building after a third straight defeat, where they have conceded 11 goals and scored none.
WELLLINGTON OVERPOWER 10-MAN VICTORY
Wellington Phoenix claimed just their second win of the Hyundai A-League season following a come-from-behind 2-1 triumph over Melbourne Victory at Westpac Stadium on Wednesday night.
Phoenix dominated much of the contest after Victory’s Rhys Williams was sent off inside the opening 10 minutes, but fell behind to a sucker-punch from Kosta Barbarouses just before half-time.
But their pressure eventually told in the second stanza with a strike from Roy Krishna and an own goal from Mark Milligan securing Phoenix a crucial three points.
WANDERERS, REDS ALL SQUARE AT ANZ
Super-sub Apostolos Stamatelopoulos netted with less than five minutes remaining to earn Adelaide United a thrilling 1-1 draw with Western Sydney Wanderers at ANZ Stadium on Wednesday night.
In an entertaining affair, fullback Jack Clisby scored his maiden Hyundai A-League goal just after the break to fire Western Sydney Wanderers ahead.
Adelaide fought their way back into the contest and went close on a number of occasions in the second stanza without finding the breakthrough.
But less than two minutes after coming on, Stamatelopoulos popped up from a corner to bury the equaliser as the Reds earned a deserved share of the spoils.
