NINE-MAN REDS HOLD ON IN THRILLER
On Friday night, Adelaide United survived two late red cards to secure an action-packed 2-1 win over rivals Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium.
Daniel Adlung and Ben Garuccio were both dismissed for second yellows in the space of five minutes, but the damage was already done as the visitors held on to go fourth with a third win in four.
ROAR, PHOENIX ALL SQUARE ON GOLD COAST
Both keepers pulled off clutch saves as Brisbane Roar FC and Wellington Phoenix drew 0-0 on Saturday in the Hyundai A-League.
The heavens threatened to open all game but the rains held off at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.
SKY BLUES THUMP SORRY WANDERERS
Inspired by Polish international Adrian Mierzejewski, Sydney FC thumped Western Sydney Wanderers 5-0 in the Sydney Derby on Saturday night.
The leaders without Serbian playmaker Milos Ninkovic, were simply too hard-working, organised and incisive.
At ANZ Stadium, Sydney FC racked up their biggest win in Sydney Derby history.
JETS STEAL IT IN THE WEST
Newcastle Jets scored two goals in the final six minutes to stun Perth Glory winning 2-1 on Saturday night in the WA capital.
Thanks to a first half debut goal from 21-year-old striker Joe Knowles, Glory appeared to have the points in the bag.
But Newcastle substitute Johnny Koutroumbis netted a spectacular equaliser in the dying minutes before a late, late own goal from Glory’s Jeremy Walker handed the Jets an unlikely win.
CITY GO BACK-TO-BACK
Melbourne City consolidated third spot on the Hyundai A-League table with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Central Coast Mariners at AAMI Park on Sunday night.
Ross McCormack netted the only goal of the game on the hour mark – his first from open play this season – as City recorded their second straight win.
