Newcastle Jets midfielder BEN KANTAROVSKI became the youngest player in Hyundai A-League history when he took the field against the Mariners last weekend aged just 16 years 208 days. The previous youngest Hyundai A-League player was Nikolas Tsattalios, aged 17 years 225 days when he made his debut for Sydney FC in Round 8, 2007/08. Kantarovski became the youngest player to appear at national league level in Australia since 2003, when Wollongong’s Michael Andrews played aged 16 years 116 days old.

Sydney FC will be aiming to break its streak of five games without a win in the Hyundai A-League. Never before has Sydney had a run of more than five consecutive winless matches, and, apart from Wellington Phoenix (who only entered the Hyundai A-League in 2007), Sydney is currently the only team not to suffer a run of more than five matches without a win. Adelaide midfield pair TRAVIS DODD and PAUL REID will each make Australian national league milestone appearances in their next matches. Dodd is set to play his 250th match in Australian national leagues, having previously played with Adelaide City, Newcastle Breakers, Newcastle United and Parramatta Power in the NSL, and Adelaide United in the Hyundai A-League. Reid meanwhile made 98 NSL appearances for Wollongong Wolves before moving abroad in 2002; after making his Hyundai A-League debut last week, Reid is now due for his 100th Australian national league appearance.
