How to watch Westfield W-League Round 14

The Westfield W-League may be reaching its end, but we are by no means past the crescendo as four teams battle it out for top spot.

Sydney FC kick off proceedings against Melbourne City, where a win plus favourable results could put City into the Finals.

Brisbane Roar travel to Adelaide United on Friday night knowing they can still salvage a second consecutive Premiership, though results will have to go their way.

Namely, the results immediately after their fixture when Melbourne Victory face Perth Glory at 10pm (AEDT).

And the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season’s regular action finishes with the Newcastle Jets looking to restore pride against a Westen Sydney Wanderers outfit that will want to finish on a high.

Sydney FC v Melbourne City
Thursday, 7:30pm AEDT

Melbourne City travel to Wollongong on Thursday night knowing they must win and hope results in the other games go their way.

Namely, they must win by four goals and or hope Perth Glory lose by three goals.

For Sydney, this game is all-important for two reasons: Firstly, the Sky Blues still have a chance of finishing at the summit, though they must hope Perth Glory draw with Melbourne Victory, and that Brisbane Roar lose.

Secondly, it’s an opportunity for Sydney FC to finish in the top-two and cement a home Semi-Final.

The last time these two sides mate, a Jasmyne Spencer hat-trick inspired City to a 3-1 win at AAMI Park, giving the hosts their first win of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season.

Times have changed – drastically – since then, as Sydney FC have since risen to third on the ladder and lead the way in goals scored with 28 goals – more than two goals per game.

Ante Juric’s side produced some scintillating football against Melbourne Victory in Round 13 and were unfortunate not to grab all three points. The side look balanced at the back and rampant going forward, so expect Sydney to threaten in February.

How to watch: Tune in to FOX SPORTS 505 to catch this clash, with kick-off at 7:30pm AEDT. Adelaide United v Brisbane Roar
Friday, 7:30pm AEDT

Oh, what could have been for Adelaide United.

After a strong start to the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season, Ivan Karlovic’s side suffered a 5-2 loss to Sydney FC, signalling the start of four losses in their last six games to write themselves off finals contention.

Karlovic and his side should still hold their heads high: The Reds have recorded their most-ever points in a Season, and have the personnel and style to make the 2019/20 Season a success.

Brisbane Roar, on the other hand, will feel they still have a chance at securing back-to-back Premierships.

If they can beat Adelaide, and Perth Glory inflict a loss on Melbourne Victory, Brisbane will have one hand on the trophy as they await Victory’s final game against Canberra United – though this is unlikely.

Brisbane have stormed into the top four following a slow start to the season and appear to be finding their form at just the right time of the campaign.

Perth Glory v Melbourne Victory
Friday, 10pm AEDT

Don’t be fooled by the ‘first-versus-fourth’ title: This is the clash we’ve all been waiting for.

Perth Glory wield some serious power going into this one. If they win, they give themselves and two other teams a sniff at Premiership glory.

Brisbane and Sydney FC are breathing down the necks of Melbourne Victory and will have their fingers crossed that Perth can do the job over the ladder leaders.

Sam Kerr is in the form of her life and recently broke the Westfield W-League all-time goalscoring record, so expect her to want to add to her immense tally.

But Victory will be buoyed by their Round 13 result, where they came back twice to nab a point against Sydney FC and put themselves in pole position for the title.

It doesn’t matter who you’re picking to win: As the game gets closer to full-time, expect both teams to throw caution to the wind and go all out.

Newcastle Jets v Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday, 7:30pm AEDT

At the start of the Westfield W-League 2018/19 Season, this game may have been earmarked as an exciting prospect.

Both sides had recruited well over the off-season and appeared to be mounting steady comebacks.

Unfortunately, neither side’s results fairly reflect the type of football they’ve been playing, though they may be an accurate indicator of the inconsistencies that have ravaged both sides.

Newcastle Jets have had to contend with injuries and suspensions to their key Westfield Matildas personnel, Emily van Egmond’s absence felt in the middle of the park over the past three weeks.

Add to that the woes inflicted on Larissa Crummer, and you get the feeling the squad may be out of sorts coming into this clash.

Meanwhile, Western Sydney Wanderers are having a season to forget, taking until Round 12 to register their first win of the campaign.

Dan Barrett’s side have shown glimpses of attacking flair, but it’s come too little, too late for the Western Sydney outfit.
