Brisbane Roar v Adelaide United

Thursday, 2.00pm (AEST)

Despite their differences in ladder position, both these teams have a bit to play for when they meet on ANZAC Day.

The Reds’ dramatic 1-0 win over rivals Melbourne Victory keep them in fourth place with Wellington Phoenix just a point behind them.

A win on Thursday will secure that spot and a home final before the Nix even have a chance to kick a ball in anger.

Brisbane meanwhile will be desperate to make amends for their 6-1 drubbing at the hands of Newcastle Jets as they look to end a disappointing campaign on a high.

Matt McKay

They will have extra motivation to do just that when club legend Matt McKay walks out at Suncorp Stadium for the final time.

A win would be the perfect way to send their skipper riding off into the Queensland sunset after more than 250 appearances.

Melbourne City v Central Coast Mariners

Friday, 7.50pm (AEST)

To say that the 2018/19 season has been underwhelming would be somewhat of an understatement for City.

The Melburnians have struggled for consistency over the past 26 rounds and desperately need to find some momentum ahead of an elimination final on the road.

A match-up against the bottom-placed Mariners at AAMI Park could do just that. Although Warren Joyce’s side will need to be careful of a Central Coast side coming off a morale-boosting 3-0 win over Western Sydney Wanderers.

The Gosford club are clearly looking ahead to next season and with interim manager Alen Stajcic almost certain to be given the job full-time, there will be members of the team playing for their futures on Friday.

City were unlucky to suffer a last-minute 3-2 loss away to the Nix and will be hoping to restore some pride to a defence that was the best in the Hyundai A-League earlier this season.

Newcastle Jets v Sydney FC

Saturday, 5.35pm (AEST)

Rewind 12 months and these two were the favourites to contest the Grand Final.

A lot has changed since then. The Jets haven’t enjoyed the best of seasons, bogged down by impotence in front of goal as well as a spate of injuries.

Sydney, while not the swashbuckling side we’ve seen over the past two years, have quietly gone about their business and remain a genuine chance of taking out the 2018/19 Championship.

They travel to the Hunter assured of a top two finish, with the week off a godsend given their AFC Champions League commitments.

The Jets meanwhile will be hoping they can end the season in style after finally showing what they are capable of in their 6-1 thumping of the Roar.

Most impressive was the age of those who inflicted the worst ever loss in Brisbane’s history with youngsters Joey Champness, Angus Thurgate, Johnny Koutroumbis and Ivan Vujica all displaying a maturity beyond their years.

Throw in the chance to disrupt their state rival’s momentum and we could see another classic brewing.

Western Sydney Wanderers v Melbourne Victory

Saturday, 7.50pm (AEST)

It’s always a match with extra edge when the two most colourful fanbases in the Hyundai A-League face off.

The Wanderers will still no doubt be hurting from their 4-0 drubbing at the hands of their Navy Blue opponents earlier in the season and will use that as inspiration given they are out of the finals race.

It will also be the last game before Western Sydney finally return to their spiritual home at Bankwest Stadium after three long years.

Muscat Victory

For all their strength on paper, 2019 has not gone exactly to plan for Kevin Muscat’s men.

They fell out of contention for the Premiers Plate and the top two, and when you throw in a tough AFC Champions League campaign to date, Victory have been somewhat out on their feet.

A win against the Wanderers after the midweek visit of Chinese powerhouse Guangzhou Evergrande would do a lot to settle the nerves ahead of their quest for back-to-back Championships.

Perth Glory v Wellington Phoenix

Sunday, 7.00pm (AEST)

Viewers are in for treat with this one as two sides who could meet in a semi-final in three weeks time set to face off to round out the regular season.

Perth had already snapped up the Premiers Plate before they went down 1-0 to Sydney last week and Tony Popovic will be eager to see his troops get back to winning ways ahead of their week off.

The Nix themselves bounced back after two losses in a row when they beat Melbourne City 3-2 courtesy of a Roy Krishna hat-trick.

The flying Fijian has a two-goal lead in the Golden Boot race and could already have it wrapped up come kick-off.

With Wellington set to finish fifth, a win in their semi-final could see them return to HBF Park to face the Glory yet again.
