Canberra United striker Michelle Heyman made her debut, while a number of Westfield W-League stars hit the scoreboard in Round 9 of the NPL NSW Women’s competition.
Heyman made her first appearance for Northern Tigers in their 2-1 win over North West Sydney Koalas.
Heyman was lively early in the contest, but couldn’t prevent the Koalas from taking an early lead.
Western Sydney Wanderers captain Ellie Brush started the comeback for Tigers, netting an equaliser early in the second half before Hannah McNulty scored a spectacular winner two minutes from time.
NAB Young Footballer of the Year nominee Kyra Cooney-Cross continued her bright start to the NPL season, leading the Football NSW Institute to a thrilling victory over Macarthur Rams.
Featuring a plethora of rising stars including Jada Whyman, Rachel Lowe, Susan Phonsongkham, and Cooney-Cross, the Institute opened up a 3-0 lead at half-time, before surviving a furious comeback from the Rams to emerge 5-4 victors.
Cooney-Cross and Lowe both found the net twice, each lifting their season’s total to five goals.
Newcastle Jets defender Nikola Orgil was the hero for Manly United in their victory over local rivals North Shore Mariners.
Orgil netted the only goal of the game just before half-time, securing a victory that lifted United to the top of the ladder.
Sydney FC and Westfield Matildas defender, Caitlin Cooper, also found the scoresheet, netting a rare brace in Illawarra Stingrays big win over Bankstown City.
Cooper bookended the scoring for the Stingrays in their 5-0 triumph.
