The Glory put on a scorching performance on a hot day in Perth with Glen Trifiro scoring a brace, and Ludovic Boi and Reece Vittiglia one each to keep Perth in second position on the ladder comfortably clear of Adelaide and Gold Coast.
Perth has beaten Sydney FC, Central Coast Mariners, Brisbane Roar, the Australian Institute of Sport, Gold Coast United and now Newcastle over the last six weeks to make up for a start to the season that saw them lose two of their first three games.
Newcastle had turned its season around after losing five of the first six games, but the loss keeps them well off the top teams and -11 on goal difference.
Both teams had plenty of chances early in the game before the effects of the heat took over. The Jets had good chances through William Angel, Jason Naidovski and Scott Balderson in the opening 15 minutes, while a Glory chance was saved right on the goal line by Newcastle defender Michael Sim.
The Glory’s first goal came through Boi just before half-time. He got on the end of a terrific cross from Tommy Amphlett, which Jets ‘keeper Ben Kennedy parried away right into the path of Boi who coolly put it in the net.
Seven minutes after half-time Trifiro got his first goal of the afternoon and then minutes later a shot from Ryan Pearson was pushed over the bar from substitute Newcastle ‘keeper Dion Shaw.
Another chance was saved when a header from Amphlett was saved on the goal line, but then in the 63rd minute Perth had its third goal through Vittiglia.
It was then 4-0 when Trifiro scored his second in the 68th minute and the two teams played out time in the warm weather in the lead-in to the Hyundai A-League clash between the sides.
The Jets now have away and home games to come against the sixth-placed Melbourne Victory over the next fortnight, while the Glory take on Central Coast at Pluim Park next Sunday.
