The advent of the National Youth League competition has opened the doors for many young players in the country and for Brodie Mooy that has led to an early taste of Asian Champions League football.
The Sydney midfielder, who can also play up front, probably thought playing in Asia-s top competition so early in his career would be just a pipe dream, but here he is mixing it with the best teams in Asia for the Newcastle Jets.
Mooy, who cousin Aaron is playing with Bolton Wanderers in England, has had to learn professional football quickly and he is obviously doing enough to impress Jets coach Gary van Egmond, who has been prepared to give the 18-year-old plenty of game time since his debut against Adelaide United in January 2009.
A product of the NSW Institute of Sport, Mooy has played with the Qantas Joeys previously and if he continues to progress, could well be a key member of the Qantas Young Socceroos during 2009.
We find out a little more about Brodie in our feature series called ‘Get to Know You-.
