Sydney FC skipper Heather Garriock says grand final opponent Brisbane will carry ‘poor’ form into Saturday’s Westfield W-League title showdown at Toyota Stadium.
The Roar won just one game in four heading into the semi-finals before edging Central Coast 1-0 to book a place in the decider.
In stark contrast, Sydney has won five straight in handsome style, scoring 16 goals in the process.
It thrashed Canberra 3-0 en route to the grand final.
According to Garriock, it all bodes well for the Sky Blues as they look to beat Brisbane for the first time.
“Brisbane’s form has been poor over recent weeks and Sydney FC is just getting better and better,” Garriock declared on Thursday.
“If we had 10 more rounds of this season, we’d be killing it.”
“We’ve all got a very good feeling about this game.”
“I’ve won one grand final in the past but that wasn’t with Sydney – that’s going to change this weekend.”
Asked where Sydney would win the game, Garriock responded: “In attack we’ve got the edge. In the last five games we’ve scored 16 goals.”
“The last four or five weeks, the results show we’ve been playing good football.”
“We’ve built dramatically from week to week.”
“We have to try and stop them from playing their game, our attack will take care of itself.”
But Garriock conceded Brisbane would not roll over easily, pinpointing Matildas Kate McShea, Tameka Butt and Elise Kellond-Knight as the main dangers.
The Roar arrive in Sydney with plenty of confidence after going three games undefeated against the Sky Blues over two seasons of the Westfield W-League.
Garriock insists past results will count for little when the whistle blows on Saturday.
“We’re out there to try and make history by beating them,” she said.
“We all want to be part of the first Sydney team to win a W-League grand final.”
