Another international star is set to grace the A-Leagues, with title-chasing Sydney FC luring Netherlands international Luciano Narsingh to Australia.
Former PSV, Feyenoord and Swansea City winger Narsingh has signed a contract until the end of the current Isuzu UTE A-League season.
A 19-time Netherlands international, the 31-year-old brings serious pedigree to the Sky Blues and A-League Men competition, which already boasts the likes of Daniel Sturridge (Perth Glory), Jack Rodwell (Western Sydney Wanderers), Carl Jenkinson (Melbourne City), Alessandro Diamanti (Western United).
Narsingh – who made over 150 appearances for PSV between 2012 and 2017, scoring 26 goals in total – won two Eredivisie titles with the Eindhoven giants and played Champions League football during his time at the club.
He was in the squad for Euro 2012 and part of the Netherlands’ 2014 World Cup qualification campaign, scoring once and supplying three assists before injury ruled him out of the tournament.
“This is a hugely exciting new challenge for me, in new surroundings and I’ll be stepping out of my comfort zone,” said Narsingh, who was handed his international debut by former Socceroos boss Bert van Marwijk in 2012.
“It will give me a new energy and I want to prove I can be a success in a new football environment and culture.
“By joining Sydney FC, Australia’s most successful club, I have given myself the best chance to do that.
“They’ve a strong squad already and I want to improve that and challenge for a place in the starting eleven.”
Narsingh arrives in Sydney, having spent time on loan at Eredivisie outfit Twente in 2020-21.
During his loan spell away from Feyenoord, Narsingh scored once in 17 league appearances.
When he arrived at Twente in January last year, Narsingh was only one of 10 players this century with at least 29 Eredivisie assists for one specific manager, having reached that number under Ron Jans at Hereerenveen from 2008 to 2012, per Opta.
“Luciano will frighten defenders with his speed and ability to get into great attacking positions,” said Sydney head coach Steve Corica.
“He has topped the Dutch first division with assists before and can also score goals so I expect he will open up our opposition.
“Added to the strength we already have going forward, including the return of Alfie and Kosta, it’s going to be an exciting finish to the season with plenty of goals.”
Sydney – third in the standings – host league-leading Western United on Saturday.
