Alex Rufer and Rhyan Grant will both sit out Round 24 of the Isuzu UTE A-League season after receiving their fifth yellow cards of the season in an altercation during Sydney FC and Wellington Phoenix’s Sunday-night meeting at Allianz Stadium.
Rufer and Grant were at the centre of a heated scuffle sparked by a challenge by Kosta Barbarouses on Sydney FC midfielder Leo Sena in the 1-1 draw.

The captains of their respective sides will now serve one-game bans, having both accumulated five yellow cards throughout the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign.

Football Australia confirmed the two suspensions along with a one-game ban for Brisbane Roar’s Keegan Jelacic, who also collected his fifth yellow card of the season in a 3-1 win over Perth Glory on Saturday night.

In the Ninja A-League, Wellington Phoenix defender Tiana Jaber received an indirect red card in her side’s 2-1 loss to Sydney FC on Saturday and will also serve a one-game suspension this weekend.
Jaber will miss Wellington’s Round 20 clash with Central Coast Mariners before being eligible for selection once again when the Phoenix take on Melbourne City on March 30.
