Queensland coach Frank Farina believes the club’s first win of the new Hyundai A-League season against Perth on Sunday was exactly what his side deserved.
Farina said the Roar had produced some quality performances during the opening two rounds but had been unable to bank maximum points ahead of losing to Central Coast just before the international break.
But Farina felt his players had atoned for that loss in their 3-0 victory over the Glory on a day when all the pieces fell into place.
“That’s what I expect from us, that we can put in performances like that,” Farina said after the match.
“To be fair, the first two games this year, we played really well. We had two draws and most probably deserved more out of it.”
“Unfortunately Perth got us on a very good day today and we did finish off and maintained the momentum for 90 minutes.”
“(But) we needed it (the win) without doubt. It’s always good to get the first win under the belt, particularly here in Perth.”
“It gives us a good springboard to go into next week but it’s only a short turnaround so hopefully we’ll pick up where we left off,” Farina said, referring to the fact his club has just five days to prepare before facing Newcastle in Brisbane on Friday night.
Roar skipper Craig Moore was also happy with the victory, although he conceded there were a couple of nervous moments early in the game when the Glory dominated possession and had several shots at goal.
“Goals change games and we scored goals at very good times,” Moore said.
“There wasn’t a lot in the game in the early parts and what I will say, we were probably just a little bit more switched on, a couple of quick free kicks caught them off guard a little bit and that’s where we got our joy in the first half.”
“We went on and could have scored more goals but it’s a fantastic result for us.”
