De Vanna destroys Canberra as Sydney FC wins again

The revival of Sydney FC continues after player of the match Lisa De Vanna inspired the Sky Blues to a 3-0 win over Canberra United at Allianz Stadium on Friday afternoon. 

De Vanna scored twice in the first half and it was her assist that saw Canberra United concede a third through an own goal in the second half. 

Sydney FC were without key player Chloe Logarzo though they welcomed back star  Caitlin Foord, who started on the bench after the Matildas star was announced before the game.

  • INJURY: A blow to Canberra with Nikki Flannery off injured after 25 minutes. 
  • GOAL: De Vanna opens the scoring.
  • HITS POST: Remy Siemsen smashed a great shot denied by the woodwork.
  • GOAL: Another superb goal from De Vanna.

  • GOAL: An OG to Canberra put Sydney FC three goals to the good. 
  • MISSED A SITTER: Amy Harrison smashed a low shot onto the post but Ibini missed an easy chance to add to the score. 
  • GREAT SAVE: Sham Khamis with a smart stop to keep out Canberra. 
  • OFFSIDE GOAL: Sydney FC’s fourth was ruled offside.
  • KHAMIS CLOSE: Sub Leena Khamis went close to making it four for Sydney FC. 
  • FOORD  ON: Caitlin Foord came on for De Vanna after 68 minutes.
  • OPEN FINAL 20: The game really opened up as both sides went for it. Foord with a number of chances while at the other end, Sham Khamis saved brilliantly from Heyman’s effort and Kopmeyer with a classy stop on the final whistle for Canberra.

The assist came from Princess Ibini who brilliantly outsmarted and outmuscled Thorsnes wide right making space for a super low cross across the goal and De Vanna finished brilliantly. 

De Vanna Sydney FC  41′, 2-0

De Vanna broke through, shifted the ball to her left foot and curled a superb shot past Kopmeyer from just inside the box. 

Pressley (OG), Sydney FC  48′, 3-0

De Vanna’s cross from the left was inexplicably headed home by Toni Pressley from right in front with no Sky Blues pressuring her.
