Melbourne City suffer injury blow, duo ruled out for rest of the season

Melbourne City’s push for Liberty A-League silverware has taken a hit, with both Leah Davidson and Caitlin Karic ruled out for the remainder of the season due to injury.

Davidson suffered an ankle injury in training last week and will undergo surgery on Monday.

After the completion of her surgery, the City midfielder will remain interstate with her family and will be required to stay off her feet for three weeks.

Prior to injury, the 21-year-old midfielder had been a mainstay in the City midfield, starting in each of her 13 appearances this Liberty A-League season.

Karic, meanwhile, recently had a knee arthroscope and despite it going well, the young forward will miss the remainder of the campaign due to the length of the rehabilitation process.

The 17-year-old featured nine times as a substitute this season, but impressed enormously in her cameos – scoring two cracking goals against Newcastle Jets and Adelaide United respectively.

City have been the walking wounded as of late, with goalkeeper Melissa Barbieri (calf), defenders Naomi Chinnama (hamstring), Karly Roestbakken (foot) and Tori Tumeth (ACL) all on the sidelines – while Daniela Galic is still away on international duty.

In positive news, they have regained Holly McNamara (knee), who got through 60 minutes in her return game against Newcastle Jets and striker Maria Jose Rojas.

Dario Vidosic sit third on the table with four games to go and take on fourth-place Melbourne Victory in a blockbuster Derby next Monday.
