Cassio happy to play his role

Adelaide United’s left back position remains up for grabs with Cassio letting slip he’s set for a stint in the midfield against the Newcastle Jets at Hindmarsh Stadium on Friday.

Cassio has only had a short stint in his pet role this season and could again be forced further up the field by Scott Jamieson.

The jostle for positions upset the Brazilian earlier in the season but the 29-year-old appears more prepared to tow the team line this time around.

“Yeah of course, as everyone knows when I came here my first year I used to play there but I enjoy playing where ever Viddie (Aurelio Vidmar) and Phil (Stubbins) want to put me, left midfield, I’ll play left midfield in this game and I’ll be happy for this,” he said.

“I have nothing to prove in my playing left back, left midfield, everyone knows what I can do, playing in both positions. I play for the team, for myself to help the club; this is what I try to do again.”

“We have to understand the coaches as well because we’ve lost the games and they must change something to try to get a result and win. They try to find the best starting 11 to win the games but it doesn’t matter which 11 players they put up, we have a good group.”

Meanwhile Cassio has vowed Adelaide United will turn its season around despite its lean run over the past five rounds.

He said if the Reds can get on a run in the next month there’s every chance they’ll find their place back in the top six and amongst the action.

“No-one likes to be a loser, at the bottom of the table and it’s no good, it’s not been good enough, everyone knows that,” he said.

“There is no secret, you have to keep training, to keep working hard every day to prove for yourself and for everyone, especially our fans, they’ve been amazing this season.”

“I just want to say for the fans they can still keep trusting us because we will turn this season around, I’ll give my word here because we have good quality players here.”

“What happened happened, the season starts now for us against Newcastle.”
