Macarthur Bulls have announced the appointment of Swiss international Bruno Berner as the club’s assistant coach ahead of the Isuzu UTE A-League 2025-26 season.
Berner, 47, arrives at the Bulls having recently held the head coach role at Swiss Super League side Grasshopper Club Zurich, where he coached former Adelaide United star Nestory Irankunda, on loan from Bayern Munich, until his departure from the club in April this year.
In his playing days, Berner represented several European clubs, including Leicester City and Blackburn Rovers in England, as well as Swiss sides FC Basel and Grasshoppers, while representing Switzerland at senior international level.

The UEFA Pro License Holder has spent more than decade operating in assistant and head coaching roles in Switzerland, including a stint as head coach of the Swiss Under-20 international side.
Berner is set to work under Macarthur head coach Mile Sterjovski in his first season Down Under.
“It feels exciting, joining an A-League club (that) is ambitious and wants to move forward,” Berner said.
“I‘ve been told a lot about the supporters, so I really looking forward to meeting them and to experiencing a match day. “
“I always look for challenges. Our head coach Mile felt is was the right moment to challenge me by bringing me to Sydney. With my curiosity, enthusiasm and openness, it felt the right thing to do.”
“Since deciding to go into management in 2012, I developed myself as a head coach and immediately recognised the importance of how a good coach can have a major impact to develop young players towards the professional football level.”
