It’s not often you can lose to your fiercest rivals yet still be content with the performance but that’s a scenario Sydney FC captain Alex Brosque has faced twice this season.
The Sky Blues have gone down to old enemy Melbourne Victory in their opening two Big Blue clashes for the first time since 2015/16.

Far from both 2-1 losses being disappointing, Brosque said they were the finest his side had played all season.
“To be honest, I don’t think we need to do anything differently,” Brosque said.
“We’ve played very, very well – probably our best two games have been against them, we just didn’t get the result.
“They got a couple of goals against the run of play and I think in both games that they won I think the better team didn’t win.
“You look at those two, we’re very happy with the way we played. I don’t think we need to change anything in terms of the way we play, it’s just making sure we get the result.”
Aside from being one of the Hyundai A-League’s biggest rivalries, Saturday’s match at the Sydney Cricket Ground also doubles as a shoot-out for second spot on the ladder.
Brosque said he expected the match-up to be typically intense.

“The whole build-up for the game, the name itself, the Big Blue – I think it says it all,” he said.
“They’re always tough, physical games, there’s always so much at stake every time we play them.
“Two big clubs with a lot of pride at stake. The games never get lost on any player, club, coach, fan – anyone that’s involved in these games.
“It’s one of our biggest games without a doubt and every game generally lives up to it.”
