Mariners midfielder McCalmont departs after two seasons in Gosford

Central Coast Mariners have confirmed midfielder Alfie McCalmont has left the club following the conclusion of his contract.

The Northern Ireland international leaves having made 40 appearances and scoring five goals for the club in the Isuzu UTE A-League across two seasons.

The 26-year-old arrived in Gosford ahead of the 2024-25 Isuzu UTE A-League campaign under the tutelage of former Head Coach Mark Jackson, who coached McCalmont during his time working in the Leeds United academy.

McCalmont featured heavily during the Mariners’ tough AFC Champions League Elite run in the 2024-25 season before then establishing himself as one of the key cogs in ex-Mariners boss Warren Moon’s midfield last season, starting 18 games.

The combative midfielder ultimately missed the final five games of last season due to injury and is now searching for a new club.

McCalmont is now the 13th player to have left the club in the off-season following the departures of Brad Tapp, Nathan Paull, Miguel Di Pizio, Christian Theoharous, James Donachie, Sabit Ngor, Nathanael Blair, Will Kennedy, Logan Sambrook, Kaito Taniguchi, Seth Clark, and Jacob Nasso.

With the Mariners now under new ownership following the confirmation of Total Soccer Growth Holdings’ completed takeover, the club are steadily reshaping their squad under new Head Coach John Hutchinson.

The club has so far signed Oliver O’Carroll from Melbourne City and former Queens Park Rangers defender Noah McCann, whilst Max Naylor has joined the club from Perth Glory
