While much has changed since Alex Brosque represented the Roar in season one of the Hyundai A-League there’s still an air of familiarity about Friday’s foes for the Sky Blues captain.
Brosque is set to line up against former team mates Matt McKay and John Aloisi on Friday night, and the Sky Blues front man said that while his feelings have changed in recent years it’ll still be special facing his former club and former mentor at Sydney FC in Aloisi.
“It’s been a very long time since I played for them but Brisbane hold a very special place in my heart,” he said.
“It’s always good and enjoyable playing against them but I think Matty McKay is the only one still around from those days in the club, there’s not many played left there from when I was there so my feelings have definitely changed.
“Since then they’ve gone on to do some good things and this season they seem to be getting back on track. They’re always a tough team to come up against.
“If I see him [John Aloisi] I’ll think of something to say to him, I’ve got all week to think of something,” Brosque continued.
“It’ll definitely be light hearted. He’s a good guy and he was great when he was at Sydney FC. I learnt a lot off him and it’s great to see him coaching again and going well.”
Having lined up in the same front three as Aloisi during their time at the Sky Blues, Brosque says he sees little of the former Socceroo’s playing style transferred over to his coaching style as he called for a bumper turnout on Friday night at Allianz Stadium to witness the top of the table clash.
“Johnny’ style as a player was very physical and I think the only thing I see similar in his side is his finishing,” Brosque said.
“Johnny was a good finisher in his time and at the moment Brisbane are finishing very good as well. Apart from that their play is very direct and very quick and it’s entertaining to watch.
“I’m expecting more of what they’ve been doing this year from them. They’re very attack minded, they move the ball around well and they’ve got some in form strikers at the moment.
“Defensively as well in midfield they’ve got a lot of experience so we’re going to have to be at 100% to beat a team who’s in the sort of form they are.
“We’ve started well, obviously there’s a lot of improvement in us but in saying that we’re top of the table so the boys are doing their bit and working as hard as they can,” he continued.
“Our home form this year from our first two games has been good, four points from six so we’re hoping to carry that on and it is a top of the table clash so there shouldn’t be too much incentive for people to come out and support the boys.”
