The Roar’s five goals in 15 minutes in the first half was a stunning exhibition of the attacking brilliance which saw them capture the Hyundai A-League double last season.
The football public have run out of superlatives for the Brisbane juggernaut which has now seen the Roar go undefeated in their last 32 games, and now even Postecoglou is being left gobsmacked by his side’s on-field efforts.
“We hadn’t conceded yet and people were saying that was the best way to hurt us … the players’ response to that (was great),” he said.
“I’ve just got so much admiration for this group of players.”
“It’s easy for me to say, but these guys, week in, week out, just come in work hard at training, never have an off day on game day, they’re always doing the right thing in terms of our structure, they’re disciplined.”
“You’ve got to admire that and I do, even as coach, the fact that this group of players just does not have an off day and doesn’t want to.”
“[This] was the complete performance. We didn’t beat just anybody; they’re a good side, they just met us on a good night.”
With 12 competition points and a plus-12 goal differential four games into the 2011-12 season, Brisbane have been clinical in every performance, delivering a brand and pace of football that has been completely beyond their opponents’ ability to match.
Postecoglou said the Roar made no apologies for their dominance, slathering his men with praise and trumpeting their ability to further extend their lead on the competition.
“All the evidence I’ve got is that every week these guys come out and perform. Every week they accept what we throw at them in training, they work harder,” he said.
“We work very, very hard during the week. They’ll whinge – not to my face, behind my back – but they’ll never stop doing it if we have to work hard and they accept that that’s part of what we do.”
“I still think there’s improvement in us. We’re getting better week by week and we want to get better, we want to keep improving.”
“Yeah (I’m expecting the hype to escalate) and it probably it should … there’s no shame in accepting that this is a very good side.”
“We don’t have to apologise for how good we are and I don’t think other people should either. I think it’s great for our code. We’re taking it to another level and I’m sure other clubs will join us, but I think everyone involved in the game should take pride in that – I certainly do.”
